Well, our melons are ripe! We have 7 watermelons from 4 vines. They are small, but should be great! We put one in the fridge and will try it out tomorrow.

    Cheers!

    BD

BTW ...love salt on maters and watermelon!

Gin - can your dane CATCH tree rats??? If so, I'd like to rent her for a couple of weeks. (My cat is indoor only, and besides the tree rats this year are almost as big as she is....)

"tree rats" I just about fell off of the couch laughing! I have never heard that before! lol... Here in Philadelphia, I guess I am so starved for wildlife that I don't mind the "tree rats". It is true that if they didn't have those "cute" bushy tails people would not tolerate them as much.

Man, my mouth was watering reading this whole thread! I LOVE HOT PEPPERS! I will buy them in large quantity, throw them in a freezer bag and put them in the freezer so when I need them I just pull one out, cut it up and use it. It's a good way to store large quantities. My favorites are Scotch Bonnets and Tiger Chili's. Man I can't wait to get a garden going.

LOL!!! There really are rats called Tree Rats. They are also called Norway Rats or Roof Rats here in Calif. They are nasty creatures, and I was talkihng about real rats. It never occured to me that everyone else was talking about Squirrels!!!! I have lots of squirrels but don't mind them at all. Tree rats do live in the trees, and can jump up to 8 feet. They are forever getting into the attic! Much worse than squirrels, they are notorious for carrying diseases.

we have something similar here called Bananna Rats. They scurry over the roof at night. They love the bananna trees people plant.

TOO FUNNY.....OH!!!! Those tree rats sound horrible! I AM starved for wildlife, I had no idea about those! Here in Phila there are really big regular old rats, and lots of them, but nothing like that. Yikes.

We have flying squirrels , they have big eyes and sail from tree to tree . Also possums , racoons , turtles , snakes, not much around where I live now . When I lived on the Big Niangua river we had the little black bears and a lot of deer .
One day the dog was having a fit I looked outside and there was a mountain lion eyeing my chickens , also saw it stalking a new calf in the field , I scared it off ( bang bang ) did not shoot it . Conservation said we don't have mountain lions ( long tail ) or elk , then later admitted that we do have them . New arrivals are armadillos .
Bad thing about squirrels is they have fleas .
Wish I could have a cat but I raise birds ,an outside cat would not survive on this road . Gin
