    Default NSW Floral Emblem

    Hi y'all,

Went for a bushwalk yesterday at the Muogamarra National Park that is only open for six weekends a year and thought I'd share a pic with y'all of the New South Wales state floral emblem.

The Waratah is a member of the Protaecae family. It grows to be about three meters tall in all but is a fairly open bush... It is sometimes cultivated in gardens but require a very open, free draining sandy soil.

    Gotta love the Aussie bush!

    Cheers

WOW! That is stunning. New South Wales - so it's almost spring there?

That's gorgeous Tim. You're really lucky to have things like that growing wild relatively nearby.

Striking and odd-cool! Does it only get the one bloom on the top or are there multiple blooms on the bush?

    Cheers!

Diane, Yes, thankfully almost spring... can generally tell when the Wattles (national floral emblem) starts flowering and they are in full gear already so it is an early spring for us.

Thanks Louis, I love Sydney because the bush is so close... half an hour on the train and I was out in bush country... this particular walk was one of the easier ones as well.. well, I mean after a 6km uphill walk from the train station to the start of the trail

Bruce, the bush of this particular plant was about a meter and a half tall with four branches and each one of those branch had a flower like that on top... apparently, and if growing in the garden, pruning will make the plant more bushy so you get more flowers...

Will hopefully share more of our quirky flowering plants here... I've got some starting to flower in the garden so...

    Cheers
    tim
