Default Bonsai at the Penang Floral Fest 2013

This year's Penang Floral Fest was very modest - to say the least. Every year the fest seems to be getting smaller and foreign participation absent for the last 3 fests. This year the orchid section was particularly poor; only 3 or 4 plants caught the eye and the rest were quite mediocre. So I'm only posting the Bonsai exhibits.

The second and fourth bonsai in post 2 are outstanding. What skill it must take to grow bonsai trees.

    cheers,

    These are magnificent.

I must add that I always think of Phillip and Maura when I see Bonsai.

wow, I've never seen the 'blending' of two different color woods in bonsai, beautiful all of them, a show of true dedication and patience, if I had to pick a favorite , it would be the third one, it expresses how I feel at times, thanks for sharing

Believe it or not, the last one was the Grand Prize winner. Most of the plants were from the Juniper family. I was particularly attracted to the plant with the berry-like fruit - it is actually a citrus that I understand grows wild in our country.

Growing bonsai is a very long term commitment!

I used to grow them before moving to Colorado. But I find they require too much moisture to grow easily here. Even more so than orchids.

Those you showed are all very traditional bonsai forms. Very nice!

I have no talent in growing these exotic plants but I like the shape and presentation so cool just for my knowledge how old is the winner plant?

I don't know Zainal.I didn't get to meet the owner, but I suspect it would have taken years to train it into that shape and form/
