That looks like it is from the deciduous magnolia. We called them tulip magnolia's in Maryland where I grew up.

Been with me for about 6 years now, Harvey. However, I have never seen it lose all or almost all of its leaves at any time of the year.

There is also a non-deciduous magnolia that is common in southern Maryland as well. In fact, both were in bloom when I was east at the beginning of April tho some of the deciduous mags were still not yet flowered for the season.

So I would guess it is that kind of mag.

I took this picture of a deciduous magnolia bloom at my nieces college in Chestertown, Maryland. Washington College

Wow, thanks for sharing, Harvey. That is one lovely magnolia. My magnolia has a fragrance that smells like melon, but with a much stonger melony scent.
