    Default Selby Hibiscus

These are 2 of the hibiscus that caught my eye at the gardens yesterday. The red fringed one was being trained to an arch over one of the walkways. I think that I have to add both to my list.

That red one is really spectacular. I've never seen such a frilly hibiscus.

Oh, they are both beautiful! My hibiscus did not make it over the winter this year. I need to get another, but I will wait until next spring.

Thanks for sharing the beautiful ones you photographed!

    Cheers!

There are a lot of breeders down here so I guess we see a lot of new hybrids. I don't know if Selby is in the breeder circuit.

OM! Those are my favorite hibiscus! Brought some back from south FL as cuttings several years ago and they are doing wonderful!!! The peach (El Capitolo Sport it was called) I've had for about 15 years and raised several more from cuttings. The red was called "Chinese Hat". "Selby" must be a slightly different hybrid. I don't know if these are the proper names but that's what we were told. They do great in buckets (they don't have a huge root ball) outdoors from very early spring to very late fall here in NW FL, we put them in the garage (no heat but above freezing) thru winter. When I had them in the ground I just cut them back and covered them with mulch (and a bucket to keep the cats out ).
Glad you found them, Cin. What gardens did you see them at? The plant our Chinese Hat cuttings came from was about 15' tall! Honest - these pics came from our garden; I didn't copy them from Cin!!!!!

Hmmm...... maybe we won't have to throw the prunings out this spring? Maybe there's somebody(s) out there who would give a poor stick a good home? Hmmmm???
All of these are capitolo sport and chinese hat except for one pink, one red, one yellow and one mutant. And yes, we do cut the yard occasionally.
