These mallows grow wild in NW FL/ SE/AL. The large ones (Rose Mallow, or Swamp Mallow) grow up to eight feet tall and the flowers are 8 - 10 inches across. The smaller ones are Marsh Mallows - I love that name! They grow up to five feet tall and the flowers are 3 - 4 inches. It's so neat to drive thru areas where Ivan killed most the trees with salt water and see these beauties thriving.
Sorry the pics are a little blurry - I was on the side a busy road and had one and a half eyes on the traffic

    Interesting reading:

"What is the origin of Marshmellow? How did it get it's name?

The confection got its name from the flower, the mucilage from the root of which used to be the key ingredient. The flower is a variety of the mallow family which regularly grows in and near marshes (hence, "the marsh mallow"). The confection is now usually made from egg-whites, gelatin, corn-syrup, and sugar (etc.). "
