    Default orchids and witty wats

I have decided that there is some sort of symbiotic relationship between cat owners and orchid care. As I was perusing old threads this morning, I began to notice that many members on this board are cat owners, and that of those cat owners, many of their felines make cameo appearances in pictures. I know my kitty, harold, never misses an oppurtunity to have her portrait taken while I'm trying to capture a new plant on film. Then there was a picture from Brutal Dreamer that featured what looked like a short hair tortoise shell kitty in the back. there's another thread that discusses kitties and gators (?!?)....and numerous threads that mention kitties and their tendency to be jealous of their orchid housemates. Perhaps this phenomenon is telling of a particular type of temperment. I know I've always been a cat person because I prefer my pets to be intellectually and spiritually superior to myself. There's also the "out of my control" aspect to being a cat owner. And I'm sure that part of it has to do with a muffled desire to be masochisitic. Same is true of orchids. Orchids, like kitties, pretty much do what they want, when they want. They rarely reward their owners when the owner feels a reward has been earned, but rather they sit, wait and choose their own time to show off. They are tempermental, stubborn and superior. So in conclusion, people (like me) who own cats and orchids are gluttons for punishment, overcome with the desire to please the unpleaseable, cater to the unsatisfiable, and enslave themselves with no promise of success or closure. That being said, I wouldn't have it any other way. And to appease my cat, who is looking at me like I just figured out a secret to the universe, I shall post a picture of her majesty.

Well put, you have a nice writing style - I love it when someone puts into words a feeling or thought I find elusive (numbers are more my thing...wrong side of the brain??) Harold is so pretty!

Ahhh, there's nothing like a lazy Sunday morning. Bottomless cups of coffee ( with a bit of Bailey's?), and at least one cat trying to lay on the newspaper as you attempt to read. Yes, they are in control. We have 9.....

Here! Here! You have spoken the truth. And so eloquently! Thanks for enlightening us humans. They (the orchids and the kitties) have known all along that they are the masters!

quite the interloper actually. the kitty in my picture was a foster kitty from the humane society. I tried being a foster parent for a while a few years ago, but Harold, upon realizing the my attention would be compromised, communicated in no uncertain terms that such a relationship would not be possible. She always makes her arguments very clear on my down comforter.

Her regalness knows you are writing about her and she doesn't seem to appreciate your touch levity, even if it is all true.

I think you are on to something. Cats and Catts! The two things we have the most of around the house.

    Cheers!

My kitty Petysia also made a clear statement right in the middle of our bed when we got the dog...Now 5 years lated, they are still mutually exclusive and we had to go great lengths to accommodate both of them, but she always has the upper hand.
She loves to spend time with me in the plant room and sits on my lap when I read the forum. I suspect that she can read too. LOL
