Cindy, your trip and photos are amazing! I can see why you extended your trip for another week just by looking at the last photo. Looks like paradise! Welcome home.

    Cheers,

Did you pick up some pumice stones on the beach to bring home? they are great for rough heels and for scrubbing iron cooking pans.

Fab photos Cindy, Santorini is somewhere I have always wanted to go. We have heard very good things about it. I think my cousin -in-law went there for their honeymoon a couple of years ago, and has always raved about it. We love walking too so it would suit us right down to the ground.

Sorry to hear about you losing your photos - that's such a shame. Is you knee any better?

Aw, man, makes me feel like going on holidays...Strange thing is that even though these places are a mere 5-6 hour boat trip away (or less than a 30' flight) now that I'm older, I'm more attracted to western-european sights.
Where you here during the Champions League Final (May 23rd)? Because Athens was full of british and italian football fans. BTW I never understood why tourists stay in hotels in plaka... most of the hotels there are not so good...small rooms, no view. I guess they are close to some of the sights, but with the subway everything is so close.

And yes Santorini is perfect...Did you visit the local wineries? The vines in the extremely dry terrain produce this caramel colored fragrant & sweet wine called Vinsanto. They also produce an exceptional white dry wine called Nichteri, which is an ideal choice for getting plastered with friends in summer nights and waking up the next morning feeling perfect!

We were in Naxos during the game, and were laughing at every restaurant because they had brought the flat screen tvs outside and everyone was watching...we don't really follow it so we just enjoyed how empty the streets were at that time.
My mother-in-law in Milano didn't know about the game but said she was sitting in her kitchen when she heard a tremendous roar throughout the entire city (when Milan won of course)...I would have loved to hear how loud it must have been there!
I did visit the Boutari vineyard and bought 2 bottles of Vinsanto and 2 bottles of Kallisti...and did go there specifically for the Vinsanto---I love it but its so expensive here (not that it was easy bringing it home).

Thanks for asking, Kerry...it is much better.
And as for Santorini you should definitely go---I could give you plenty of tips!
Good view, good food, good wine, what else is there?

Well done Cindy! Vinsanto is indeed expensive even in wine stores in Athens (could be up to 20 euros) and maybe more, if the vines were harvested in exceptional weather conditions or if it is aged. Unfortunately most things are expensive in the isles...however some things are definately worth spending on, like staying in some amazing hotels on the edge of the caldera (what remains of the isle-giant volcano, croisant-shaped, after it erupted and filled with sea).
In your photo, one can see the special technique used in the isle for the vine growing, in order to take advantage of the maximum amount of humidity that builds up during the night (the vines are not watered). The vines are grown circularly thus forming a crown. Kinda like bonsai-vines!
