    Default Bird of Paradise

Today it has been flooding here in the River Valley. Rain and more rain since around noon. At one point it was so heavy, that I noticed the gutters on the house were overflowing. I climbed up on a ladder in the downpour and found that a drain spout was clogged with leaves and twigs. After cleaning it out, I figured since I was already soaked I would check around all the gutters. That is when I found this bloom! I waited till the rain died back and snapped these shots. The wind was still blowing strong, but I got a fairly decent shot or two with a flash. This is the first bloom of spring for our Bird of Paradise. The plant is protected by an overhang, so it doesn't get the full on Arkansas sun or the torrent of rain. lol. I think the blue part is really beautiful in this bloom.

    Enjoy!

    Cheers,
    BD

Nice, Bruce. Takes me back to my high school years.

Are you able to leave it out year-round in your zone?

No, we keep it inside until the end of April. We move it back inside before the first frost in late October.

    Cheers,

That's a nice surprise to have found growing in your gutter Bruce. How very pretty it looks. Thanks for sharing.
