    Smile Exotic looking cactus flower

    Hello E1;
    Here's an interesting cactus flower...I've been growing this cutting from a friend for over a year, this is my first flower on it....guess those threats to quit watering it if it didn't flower, worked.

    This is really an amazing flower, and so large!! Thanks for the perspective photo with your hand there - really helps us to get an idea of the how big this bloom is!! I wish I knew what it was, but since I'm from the midwest and never studied succulents or cacti in much depth, I'm really drawing a blank! Do know that its really beautiful though - quite a conversation piece!

    Your plant is Stapelia gigantea! I have the same one! I call the flowers "Stinky Starfish"...

    Such a nasty smelling plant with gorgeous flowers. I don't think I've had a flower as large as yours is, though.

    Thank You so much, now I can give it a name...and Stinky Stapelia gigantea sounds almost as cool as this thing looks. I take my left over orchid water from the phals and dump it on this thing. Maybe the food in the water gave it a little size boost. lol That stinky fish emulsion makes everything bigger.
    Thanx again

    Interesting plant, how much does it eat per day? Looks vicious.

    BD, It looks like your Stapelia gigantea comes with both blowflies and maggots. This plants odor mimics carrion to attract blowflies to pollinate it.
