I guess he was on a slither-about. Any critter you approach will try and defend itself. He doesn't have many options at his disposal, so I'd imagine biting would be his first choice. But he's non-poisonous.

Still, if he reached around and nipped me, my reaction would be to freak out, drop him and then imagine all sorts of horrible physical effects. We've been trained well, LOL!

That was ONE BAD RABBIT !!!! I hate snakes but I never kill them if they leave me alone. We had one in the bedroom when we were remodeling and we chased him out the lanai door. He hung around the door as if to say "What the heck did I do"

I know the rattlers around here help keep the rat population down, but the snakes do so well that we now have a snake population problem. The fire department (they are the ones who handle snake calls, not animal control) automatically kills them, they used to try to relocate them but there are too many. I've had about 1 a year on my patio. I usually leave them alone and stay inside till they move on. But had to call one time when a 5 footer decided to take up residence. They are truly beautiful, though. I get the Westerns, they are easy to identify by the black and white rings around their tails.

It is a different story when they become a nuisance especially if they can harm humans and pets. That's when you start thinking NEW BOOTS

Poor li'l guy. He just thought your home was more comfortable than the wild outdoors. Know what you mean about leaving them alone. We had one perched in a tree near one of our birdfeeders last fall. It was a Pine snake, not poisonous, and we left it alone. The birds eventually harassed the snake away; no harm done. BUT when I told the neighbors that they might see a good snake and not to let it scare them (two widows on one side, on widow on the other), they were MORTIFIED that we didn't kill it! Almost ostracized us from the neighborhood. Sheesh. Some folks are just not in tune with nature LOL!

To get a snake to move (1) spray it with water (2) spritz it with alcohol on the front of the head. Do the same thing to get it to release if it bites you.
