That white cloudy web is most likely a fungal infection of sorts. Your flask/ container most likely became contaminated during the sowing. Try again, and make a serious effort to form a sterile environment. It only takes one spore/ bacterium to ruin an entire flask!

This was wonderfully educational, and Piper's(where is she these days? she was such a presence on this forum for a long time) and everyone else's comments all along made it so much more fun to read. There is so much patience involved, as Doodlekitty showed us, and then to have real orchid plants from those green blobs... amazing! I plan to attempt it some day too.

    Hi!

Do you know how long it take for me to see some things that indicate the seed is gememinated? It been 4 weeks now and i dont see anything? I throw away all the jars that have white cloud and keep the one that still okay. Can you tell me what to look for?

I posted some pictures of my flasks that are starting to grow. You can see the green of the developing protocorms.

Thanks for your fast response. May I ask how long it take to see them? I don't see any in mine and it had been a few weeks already. Thanks.

Kristinal, it can takes several weeks before you see any action. As long as they are not contaminated, i say to stay the course and give it a few more months. You've got almost nothing to lose, but so much to gain!
