While banana inhibits germination, can potato being used for the germination medium? If so, how much potato for 1 liter?

I built my own glove box (sterile box). Maybe I can inspire others - here's a link to the photos:

Did anyone try out to add traces of fungicide to the germination media? Maybe that can prevent the loss of entire flasks in case fungi spores touch it. If so, how many grams or milligrams per liter?

Can I used regular charcoal which I have powderized in a mixer, instead of activated charcoal?

Can a few grams or milligrams of silicates be used for the germination medium? Can orchids use them for the germination?

I wouldn't try potato for orchid seeds, because the orchids don't have amylase to break down the starch. You need a simple sugar source, such as sucrose (table sugar) glucose/dextrose, etc.

mmmm...seems like i had been missing threads from this post. haha ..my apologies

in the previous thread Cas mentioned that banana inhibits germination, so maybe should omit banana for germination medium.

i tried clicking a couple of times into the facebook thread but i can't see the picture uploaded.

i would not try to add in fungicide, may inhibit rooting because some seedlings' root tends to grow slower when fungicide is applied. i would adhere to strict aseptic technique of sowing and also proper sterilization of the media (a pressure cooker really helps, my toy to flasking project...the cooker really eliminates most of my problems)

i tried blending charcoal with mixer in my attempt for diy media, but not not meausre how much i added in. silicates....not sure.
BUT ... in a nutshell, i prefer commercial medium. less trouble and i made modification to my previous technique. so far, results are promising.

the modifications is in this thread from my blog.

    hi, thanks for asking,
so far i only deflasked one flask. one of my initial flask. i put too little media in it, one seedlings is growing fast, even putting out a new growth with its near matured bulb, but the rest of the seedling is still quite small.
the pics here you can see the biggie is doing 'ok', not fantastic but ok. the smaller one is not so good.
the rest, still sitting in the bottle. deflasking them always gives me the goosebumps
