    Hello Robert.
I just started this year sowing orchids. I have had some good results. I also sowed Phalaenopsis lowii seeds, but they did not germinate so far. I would like to know what kind of disinfection you used and for how long. Also I would like to know what kind of medium you used. I can't find specific answers to these questions on internet. I did have good results so far with some Dendrobiums, Lycaste, Coelogyne and some european terrestrics.
Hope to hear from you soon, because I have 3 pods of Phalaenopsis hybrids that are ready to be harvested as greenpods.

I find this type of orchid-chemistry-growing fascinating. Although I do not have the talent to do this; it truly amazes me.

    Hi Paul,
For cracked/opened seed pods i use household bleach %5 and vary the sterilisation time 5 mins,10,15 and 20 mins.shake and clean with distill water and finally they are placed into different jars. Note down all the datas so we will know which method work best.

The less tedious and work almost 100% will be using uncrack/green seed pods. cut the pods when they turn lime green. use dish detergent to scrub off dirts and particles under running water. Inside the sterile chamber dip the pods into ethanol and flame it using spirit lamp/burner. Place the pods on sterile plates. cut open with sterile knife and place seeds evenly into the flask.. capped and seal flasks...that all.. wait for germination.

I'm using musashighe & skoog micro and macro nutrients with vitamins medium for 1 Liter 1/2 strength, 30g sucrose and 5g agar. The agar a bit soft but i like it this way. previously i'm using 7g must find it bit solid. some jars with dark medium because i have added activated charcoal 2g/L.

Oh, those are so cool! I would love to try to get seedlings from my Phals, just even for practice! I've five in spike right now, but so far I've never managed to get one fertilized. I should start another thread about that!

Great job, Robert. I haven't attempted any propagation yet, but I am totally fascinated by all you scientific types.

Thanks for reading Carolla and Bob. Yes, it's amazing and fascinating how it works. I'm still exploring further. Please do post your methods and any different ways of preparing which worked, am sure everyone like to know and give a try.

    Hi Robert,
Thanks for your clear reply. Yesterday evening I made the medium, I intend to sow the seeds of Phalaenopsis lowii this week. I decided to leave the greenpods for a while on the plants (they were made in october 2012)
I'll let you know the results (if any)

Paul, it's still too early. wait till the seed pods changes the colour to dull lime green. At that stage seeds will be matured.

I'm not sure yours at this stage are viable but if anyone had tried with success, wait for others to comment.
