    Default The Smiths

The Smiths were a New Wave, now considered 'Emo', group from the 80's. Morrisey (the singer) has since gone on to do his own solo work, which in its own rights, is good, but being a product of the 80's I prefer The Smiths.

I could also try singing Tom Waits tunes while flasking (not that I think his whiskey and broken glass voice would help the plants out much, btu the end result might be interesting

Hmm - guess I pretty much missed the whole music scene in the 80's.... Have you ever considered giving the plants a dose of Creadence Clearwater Revival? Or maybe the Doors? A little early Santana???

    Default Ok...step #2

I have selected my media for the mother flask, I think I did a good job based upon suggetions from SteveT and Kyle. My next question...as far as flasks go. I have seen from alot of other websites that I have travelled to have orchids in your traditional Erlenmeyer Flasks (they look all nice and scientific) to people growing them in Ball jars of varying sizes. As far as I am able to guess, as long as the container for the mother is air tight and sterilizable (probably not the correct word, I was a writing major in college, I should know what the appropiate term here is, but it was a long day...so soon my Phals and I are going to get to drinking)...it, in theory, shouldn't matter. Feel free to school me on this as this is my first attempt.

By the way, thanks for all of the tips. I am beginning to feel slightly more confident that I can do this.

ERlynmyer flasks are expensive. I use babyfood jars with special lids made by the Magenta company of Phytotechnologies. Works for me. I''ve seen people use glass drink bottles, like the kind you get juice in. Your right, as long as it can talk the sterilizing and has a good lid, go for it.

After you sterilize your media, wait a week to see if the media becomes
contaminated. ie. don't sow the seeds the next day.

What media did you select and what are you sowing?

    Good luck
    Kyle

Default in the words of Marv Albert...YESH!

So, I must be one lucky SOB...I just received an e-mail from UNH. They have three hoods, and they said they MIGHT (I know...not a 100% guarantee) be able to accomodate me and my flasking adventure.

It wouldn't be the first time someone thought I was a girl...though since I cut about 50 cm off of my hair, I was hoping that it would lessen the chances!
