Default What to do with pod?

I bought a Masdevallia 'Weberbaueri' in Jan. '06 & now have a pod...
I, of course, would love to make more plants from the seeds, but have no knowledge of how to do so.. What should I do??

How does one delicately suggest that it might have done it to itself?

See - it doesn't cause blindness.

Default Masdevillia pod

As funny as those responses are, I would like some serious opinions on what to do with the pod.

Those of us who know will give valuable insight. Those of us who don't just act silly. Sooo You need one of our flasking folks to help you. Check the other threads in this category, see who seems to be giving advice on a regular basis, and send them a PM. Try Atester for a start..

Default ***MASD FLASKERS, PLEASE STEP FORWARD!***

Like Diane, I'd suggest PM'ing Aaron (aka, ATester). Not only does he flask, but he loves Masd's. They're not a genus I have experience with, and I don't have pod maturation times for them.

Pods are slow to develop (many months). Then the seeds need to be harvested in sterile conditions and set in flasks with sterile and properly balanced growing nutrients. Home flaskers often end up with a messy kitchen and a flask filled with mold in a few weeks, but it is possible to do. Aaron has succeeded, which is why we're pointing you to him. Sue would also be a good resource.

Good luck! In the meantime, smoke a cigarette!

Default Masd pod

Thanks for the advice Piper & Diane Although, after looking at some of the flasking posts I wonder if trying to do it myself would be worth it. Besides, the only sterile thing in my house is my orchid knife, ...oh & the 2 male dogs...LOL Martha Stewart, I ain't
Maybe I'll just try to find someone who is experienced & wants to do it... maybe I can pick of the litter??

Default Masdevalia flasking

Hi, I'll offer to try flasking for you. I have some mother and replate flasking media that is currently not doing anything, and I won't charge you anything. I just checked up on my replate of Encyclia adenocaula and they are doing beautifully (not trying to sell myself here or anything), a third are about a 1/4 tall.

valb561, you are welcome to PM me if you are interested.

And for some of the rest of you, I think my Paph. 'Ma Bella' is developing a seed pod. We'll see....

Default Masd pod

Aaron & I corresponded about the pod & as he suggested, I enclosed it in a coffee filter. Took awhile, but one day I looked inside filter & there was yellow dust!!! I cut the stem & sent filter, pod & all to Aaron. He's going to track his progress on flasking thread. We're both excited about this venture & hope he grows something & others learn from it
