    Default Orchid roots

I have some Vanda without any media and grow outside 24/7 under bright light. Most of the time the roots are starting to have a brow color near the tips and die eventually. I know this is not for over watering because I only water my Vanda twice a day and the temperature is really hot.
Also this morning, I have a cattleya in open basket and noticed the brown color near the tips of the root. I hope somebody could help me.

Are they getting direct sun? Esp. direct sun in the middle of the day would be too much, I would think...perhaps the roots are getting sunburn?

I agree with Kathi...Both of them are probably getting too much direct sun light between 11:00am and 1:00pm. That is when the sun is the hottest/strongest. Can you place them where they won't get direct sun between eleven in the morning and one in the afternoon? This would be my best guess...Betty

Thanks Betty and Kathi, I am using 40% sun protection and the heat is just enough for them, others plants are doing good in the same position. I was thinking today that I might using too much fertilizer to burn the roots.

From what I have read, that is possible. From AOS site:
    "Fertilizer burn symptoms
Lack of root growth may indicate an unhealthy concentration of mineral salts in the medium, on up to full fertilizer burn. If this is suspected, decant the plant and check its roots. Dead root tips, brown roots or salt crust on the potting medium surface are signs of trouble. In later stages, brown leaf tips may appear, indicating burned roots."
