Default How Cold Can They Get?

What is the opinion of those professors out there who grow Cymbidiums as to the lowest temperatures they can tolerate? I know there are some "warm-growing" cymbids that can't handle the cold, but otherwise....in general what is the consensus...40....45....50?

I say no freeze, nothing below about 35 degrees if there is wind. There are cold, intermediate and warm growing types. But most common ones are the intermediate, warm types. While frost might not kill, any buds or spikes that are forming will be lost.

With the exception of the "warm blooming" cymbidiums,
45F and below kills flowers and buds, but the plant is ok.
30F-35F, leaves can exhibit some stress but otherwise ok.
27F and below, healthy pseudobulbs drop their leaves but survive. Once it warms up they grow new pseudobulbs again.

We bring ours in after the first light frost and it blooms like mad shortly thereafter. It likes to get cold. We never let it freeze though.

    Cheers,
