    Talking Spike surprise after vacation:)

After being on vacation for about 10 days, I came back to a very nice surprise!
The newy matured Pseudobulb on my onc. has developed a 10 cm spike Of course I was extremely happy with this. I bought this orchid about a year ago for a very good price and without blooms or a tag, of course.
The only information I had on this one was that it flowers very small pink flowers.....well, I guess we'll find a out pretty soon

I kept the onc for a very long time receiving morning sunshine, indirect through glass bricks, but lately, it must have gotten too hot, since a few leaves have suffered a bit of sunburn. This probablly though, helped it to start a spike.

I have placed it now a bit far from the window, hoping I will get a long spike. Is that a correct thing to do?

    Thanks for looking!

Good job Fadi, that's a good surprise to come home to! It always seems that it's when you are not looking that the spikes come out. Make sure you post pictures of the blooms.

Great news, Fadi! Congratulations on the new spike. I wonder if it will really turn out to be pink?

    Cheers,

    Default Onc spike progress

I just wated to update you guys on the spike progress on my mystery Oncidium. The spike has grown and it seems that I will have some flowers pretty soon. It does not seem that it will be pink flowers
I have a feeling that it will be yellow. But then again, sometimes its too soon to judge. I will post some more pics when the blooms open

Thanks Becky It was a bit difficult getting that spike straighten up! It was placed before the spike started in a better lit location, but then I placed it in a more shaded place so that the spike would reach for the light and get longer. I guess it is working Also I had to rotate the pot a bit so that the spike would follow the direction that it it is supposed to. I just can't wait for it to bloom! I will post some pics of the bloom later.
