    Default *someone* is happy....

I'm starting to feel like I'm hogging forum space, but I can't help myself, I have to tell someone.

My sharry baby is putting up a 3rd spike. This spike was not visable at all when I purchased it, and today I noticed it. It's already 3" long. That would bring my total spike count to 4. 1 currently blooming, 3 that are unbloomed, all in that tiny four inch pot.

unfortunately, i am also a n00b on the topic, this is my first one as well. although i hear they're one of the easiest oncs to grow. the number of spikes i have on the sharry is, at the moment, an act of wanton, dumb luck.

eidolontree, that's great! They grow quickly (provided, like anything else, the right conditions). Dana, yes, the spikes will only appear on new growths. Timing is variable: sometimes the spikes will come just as the PBs are starting to fatten up, sometimes they'll wait till the PBs have almost reached their full size.

I would have to disagree. I am of the belief that you can claim responsibility for whatever your plant does once you have paid for it. (Unless it dies, in which case it was ailing when you bought it.) But, if it spikes (or the spike gets bigger and them blooms) after money has exchanged hands, pat yourself on the back.

Yeah, I've noticed it grows quickly. I can barely fit it on the shelf by the window now, which is where I put it before I go to work. The spikes are huge things, a couple feet tall, at least. I've noticed it seemed "happy" after I bought it, but I sort of chalked it up to excess optimisim. Then I noticed the sheer amount of honeydew the thing put out, and now the spike. It's a little funny to look at, sometimes. All the spikes are covered in honeydew and cat hair. Maybe I should wipe it off with some water and a paper towel.

So shall I point at it and proclaim, "I did that!" ?

yeah, and i didn't think i'd be able to provide it with enough light to live, let alone thrive. maybe i shouldn't have been so "eager" to trade away my dends (actually, i miss them now that they're gone, and their absence is making me twitch)... ah well, the orchids were so crowded at my one window that they were resorting to violence for space. the sharry usually knocked over one or two of the odbrs every time i moved it. these poor things, who'd have thought that their biggest fear living with me would be gravity?
