Looking through the Paphs today I was studying 2 plants I've had for some time.
They are Paph Leoniae = callosum x insigne... Registered in 1893. I found a pic of an oil painting of this cross but have never seen it in flower, multi growth plants with about an 16 -18 inch leaf span. I was wondering if anyone had seen this cross in flower. Its not a cross I would think was a remake.
Hi Roy, I would say that callosum being quite close in appearance to barbatum or lawrenceanum that you may be able to get a guide of how the flowers on Leoniae would look like.. if you google for Paph Ashburtoniae (insigne x barbatum) and Paph Umlauftianum (insigne x lawrenceanum) you may get flower pics.
some of these intersectional crosses are a pain to get to flower though aren't they
Tim & BD, I had another look at the web myself last night and came up empty. There are some growers here with Ashburtoniae and its similar to the painting I found earlier but the plant is different in many ways. I re-measured the plant this morning and I was way out, the new growth leaf span is 28 inches or 71 cm.
Yes it appears to be one that will flower when it wants to.
Hey, a member in another forum found the Pic of the painting I couldn't find. I then searched my computor again and found it in the wrong file....der.
All due respects to the pic owner. Here it is.
