Red face What have I done?

Oh, wow. I feel so stupid. I just rescues four phals. from a Box Store that clearly knows nothing about orchid care, and then I realized that I know almost nothing about orchid care. Well, I know the basics like watering twice a week and how to keep phals. roots dry, but I would really appreciate some advice. Thanks.

Good news, we can help! Check out the two phalaenopsis orchid articles on this page: growing phalaenopsis orchids. Be sure to share a photo of your orchids.

Welcome. Post some pictures so that we can see exactly the challenges you are dealing with. Then we can give you more specific advice. You may find that in the winter watering 2x/week is too much. You'll just have to keep any eye on them. Welcome--and you can certainly take care of these new phals of yours.

They will do much better in your care. They would have died standing in pots of water for days or else not being watered at all. If you don't want to be tempted again, stay away from the plant section at the discount stores. They are carrying orchids, also, and have no clue as to their care, either. I rescued one recently on a trip to buy some saucers to put under my orchids. I wanted to take them ALL home. LOL

Rescuing orchids can be very rewarding. I have a few rescues out on the porch doing nicely. You'll have to share pics of them sometime....welcome to the group, alot of us have problems not bringing home all the sick ones we find too. lol I keep saying I have run out of shelf space, but found the room for 4 sicko's recently (as well as 3 healthy ones).

there's a convenience store by my house that carries orchids and i'm always holding myself back from trying to save them from their inevitable fates (i suffer from a lack of space, plus they're pretty expensive there and i'm a student - which is code for 'poor').
they sometimes even have less than common varieties, like one time there was a zygopetalum, but its a convenience store so i just wonder how many drunks go in there after the bar closes for snacks and come home with orchids...

Default I finally figured out my camera.

Okay, sorry it took so long, but I've been having tons of tech issues and loads of school work, but I've got some pictures. But the forums really just hate photobucket, so I'll try to put the pictures up as soon as possible.

Hi, OliveChan. The picture cannot be more than 700x700 and you can only post four at a time. See

Scroll down to post #4. The Image Resizer is excellent.
