I don't drink, but I would like to join this venting club.

Houston's weather is crazy in winter, one day has low to 30s, then the second day reaches high 70s. So I am having hard time to grow them outside. I have lost several new growth over moving plants into covered shelf. Even worse, I have lost Bl. Little Star, B. cordata, C. Chocolate Drop, and several other catts too I would like to replace them, but it might be a better idea to buy next spring so I don't kill them this winter.

Oh, contractors, I have dealt with them too after hurricane IKE landed 2 trees on my house. I think my husband's saying at the end was "I just want to kick them out of my house". But you have to inhale/exhale, and work with them to get the job done right. Good luck!

Gin, you too had flat tire? I had one today. After the auto man took the tire off the car, there was a huge nail right there, no need to look for it.

Yikers! After reading through all these posts, I am terrified to go anywhere or do anything!!!! My very best wishes to you all. Maria, I've never broken off a new growth, but I've certainly broken off entire spikes and blooms off spikes.

Update: First, I marched into the room, halted the installation and had them turn the carpet so the nap would be the way i wanted. When they left at 6:30 (they started at 10:00) and had only finished two rooms - two to go- I joined you all for a coctail. Bravo my friends it did the trick. Second, I took care of the snapped orchid problem the only way a real woman would, I went out today and bought two more. The newbies are Blc. Chis LIn New City and Blc. Lawless Romeo & Juliet.

    L-
The orchid is BLC Hawaiian Night Life Carmela. On the bright side, the eye is already getting larger. I'm experimenting with this one - went into s/h.

Maria, you truly are an example of that attitude "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade". I *love* your solution! LOL

Perfect way to handle that whole situation!!

BD- at least it was dark and no one saw you? When I do things like that it always seems to be broad daylight with TONS of people standing around to see it.

And, when I got home from a day and a half away Saturday night I came inside to a serious RAIN storm in my place due to a broken pipe...it truly must be something in the air?

I love your solution!! Be careful with your orchid in S/H. It's a pain trying to clean up if you drop the pot. lol. That was my weekend in a nutshell. I still have hydroton rolling around the ground in my backyard. I hope no one slips on it. :/
