    I really didn't want to do that. I like the size it is now. I finally have it in a new pot. It took the better part of the day and alot of roots got broken at the bottom. I was only able to get the bottom opened up somewhat. the roots are so overgrown and growing in all directions. I am hoping I did good enough and that it recovers.
    We shall see.... thanks for all the tips everyone.

    Has it grown around a hunk of coconut husk?

    nope, i was able to get my fingers up inside and there were only some pieces of bark and other broken down media and not much of that. it is all roots.
