    becky,
is the bottom of the plant in the water when you begin? i don't know if that's clear but what my concern is the the bottom of the canes on the den will be in the water, will they rot? i really like this plant but it has not grown one root in months. the canes look fantastic though. thanks.

Hey all! Yes I would def try this with your catt that 3 are having trouble with...that's exactly how this one was, until I put it in water!! Yes the bottom of the plant is in the water when you begin...get as much of the roots and other stuff off around the base as you can, and change the water 1-2 times a week. Since the base won't be exposed to air (aka potential bacteria) the rot will be minimal. This is how I did mine and they are doin great.some algae will prob come, but don't worry about it.

I haven't tried straight water culture before...but if it works...keep it up! The vase vanda gets watered and drained..

There was a great article I read on this..but I cannot remember where. It was from a Colorado grower that is now out of business. Keep up the good work!

    That's just amazing Becky.

I moved a catt. that wasn't happy to S/H to try out but I just moved half of it back to bark since it was just sitting there. In the process of moving it to S/H it divided so I have 2 now, one in bark one in S/H. The one in S/H is much smaller though so it'll be a bad comparison.

I am impressed, but don't have the nerve to try this! There was a guy in my OS who was really into growing in water. Unfortunately, he's no longer a member and I don't know if he's still at it or not. At any rate, it's quite fascinating to observe.

    Cheers,
    Rob

Hey ya'll! Yes, this is grown in just plain water, but I do add fertilizer water to the vase occasionally...about 1x a week, just a little bit. I do think they need nutrients like any other orchid, and I want to be sure its getting enough...I want this thing to bloom!! I rotate between schultz orchid food and better gro bloom booster, and always add a drop of superthrive to everything That's my (hopefully) magic solution.
