Hello!!! Hope everyone is doing ok...

My mother-in-law gave this orchid that she can't get to flower so that I can try it. She told me that it was a den. Could someone please tell me which type it is so I can look up specific growing conditions?

    Thanks,
    Lisa

That would be a dendrobium of the latouria section.

More specifically. It looks like either D. abberans or D. johnsoniae possibly.

Can't recommend any good books, but you can google "latouria dendrobium culture"

    Hi elissamiranda,

to me it seems a Dendrobium lindleyi ( syn Dendrobium aggregatum) or a Dendrobium jenkinsii (Syn Dendrobium aggregatum var jenkinsii).
Both plants are really similar, very different flower, take a look at this link :

    IOSPE PHOTOS
    IOSPE PHOTOS

    this is mine now

first photo to understand dimension and second to let you see stems on a jenkinsii, flower are held one by one, dend lindley has a few flowered inflorescence, both should be fragrant.
Both of them need a dry, cool, quite long (at least 2-3 months) and if possible full shine rest during winter otherwise will not flower.
Anyhow I have not kept it completely dry, al least once a week I sprayed it.
Mine was with cool dendro with t min during night around 10 C.
This is a small trick I have used this year for the first time after 2 years full of vegetation but no flower, (seems it works, I have many many stems, let's hope it will flower), when it has started with new root I brought it in my office, lot of light (but less then before, no full sun) and high t (18 night 22-24 day), in a short time it is covered with floser stems)
If you can mount it on a cork, I have used a mangrovia roots (one used for aquarium), it grows quickly, I place 5-6 pseudos on that piece in 2007 and it almost cover all the piece in 2 years.

    Fabrizio
