Default Masdie - new spike vs. new leaf?

Does anyone have pics available of a new masdie leaf vs. a new masdie spike?

I've got two relatively new masdies - a blooming size angel tang I've had about 3 months that is sprouting something vaguely tubular, but pointy at the top (hollow in the middle) which I think is a leaf. Lots of new roots on this one too.

Then I have a confetti I bought on 4/24 with a very recently solved fungus gnat issue. It's very quickly sprouted a very thin, non hollow pointy growth heading straight up from the growing medium. So, I think this is a spike.

Any confirmations out there on these theories? I don't have a digital camera, so no pics unfortunately!

    Thanks so much!

Heather, I have no pics of a masdevalia spike vs. a new growth, but the way you've described it sounds right to me.

(Course, there's 50/50 chance we might both have it backwards but, either way, it sounds like the plants are doing well!)

    Default Thanks!

    Thanks Louis!
What I read recently on another forum seemed to indicate this was correct. I can't find the pics though! I hate that...anyway... They most definitely are different. At least today. So, I figure one must be a spike! Yippee!

The post I recall from earlier in the other forum mentioned that they had the same, confetti plant, I think from the same vendor, and he was surprised it had spiked so quickly - which leads me to believe the confetti is the spike. Very excited as I was concerend with the lack of drying out and presence of fungus gnats. Physan took care of them very quickly, hopefully that is that !

Well, anyways - rambling. Thanks for a nice forum! And the response!
