Default Burrageara Kilauea 'Volcano Queen' and Aridang X Oliver Green

I'm starting to wonder if I'm the orchid collector or my husband. I was telling him how I was so impressed by the orchid he got me before - how it had proper medium and good roots and everything. So, today, he got me 2 more from the same grocery store.

I opened up the roots and the same thing, they were mostly yellow/green and in a bark-mix.

My husband got another oncidium-hybrid and a dendrobium. Now, I'm putting the oncidium next to the window just like the other one I just got.

I've always thought dendrobiums need the same light as vandas, is this correct? Water less often than vandas though?

And last question... the caresheet didn't say anything about mediums. Is there a difference in medium requirements for each genus of orchid, or do they basically just go with the same bark mix?

    Okay, here are the pictures:

    And all together now:

    Take a bow...

Tess, they're really beautiful. And I think your hubby is now a collector too, only he would rather have you take the blame if anything goes wrong. Of course, we already know that's not about to happen anymore, right?

Anne, if my orchids get in trouble, you're driving to Jacksonville! Between the 2 of us, these guys should have a long fulfulling life. Ahem!

Connie, he's still in denial... he thinks he's just giving me a "gift" when we all know he is as addicted as me - probably even more so!
