ANNE, I can't believe it! My vanda has a spike!!!! AAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Okay, okay, everybody, I need help now... the base leaves are not a good color - they're getting yellowish. And I saw a tiny ant crawling around the leaves. There are good new root growth! But, I want this spike to make it all the way. So, what do you think about the leaves???

YIPPPEEE!!! I'm not an orchid killer!!!!

My kids just asked me, "Mom... why are you screaming when it's just a flower!". NO NO NO... This is NOT JUST a flower! Hah!

Tess, CONGRATS!!! This is a very healthy looking vanda and I don't think you should worry about the older leaves. Just enjoy and make sure you update us with the blooms. One more thing- I think is time to change your name...

Yep.. my older bottom leaves always seem to look terrible.

Tess, I am so happy for you!! I KNEW you weren't an orchid killer. You just needed to find this site to get the right advice on how to care for your babies.

    CONGRATULATIONS!!

wow you no longer an orchid killer, but an orchid grower.
nice spike you've got there and you deserve all of the credits. as for the yellowing of the
leaves, i think that maybe a normal leaf dying. maybe apply some fungicide just to be
    sure.

Congrats, and don't worry to much about the lower leaves. They will drop off as the plant grows taller. As long as you have healthy roots and new root growth chances are you have a healthy and happy plant. All the best

You'll have to post a photo when the buds open.
