Default One persons trash is .....

I found this noid girl when I was taking out the trash this morning. It still had two wilted flowers hanging out in the medium (they looked like they were white with some purple or pink) and the spike was still fresh. I took it home and found out that it just started a new spike. The roots are healthy, maybe a bit dried out but very healthy. I cut down the old spike to the last unbloomed node and we'll see what. With a little luck I'll have nice white/purple/pink flowers in a month or two.

I just can't understand why people would throw it out if it's completely healthy but has only lost the flowers on the current spike. It's not like they have 100+ orchids and don't have space for this one.

I took it to work this morning and will keep it until I go on study leave at the end of the month. After that a lady at work that I've recently got addicted is going to take it over as she has just moved and has plenty of space. I guess that's one more for the saved/rescue list.

I think I'd have been rescuing that one too! Very nice healthy plant and roots. In fact, it looks better than some that I've seen on sale for a nice price. lol

I'm betting the person knows nothing about orchids and thought it was dead. Good for you for rescuing it.

I read somewhere that sales reps at the box stores are telling customers that the plant is dying after it finish blooming. That might be the reason?! This phal is sooooooo healthy looking! I wish my neighbors throw some out like it…….LOL

I cannot find anything wrong with it besides a cracked air root.

I will bet a pretty penny that your neighbor got the phal in bloom as a gift from the flower shop or from the store and didn't know it is actually a PLANT. So, after the flowers died, out the thing goes - kinda like my mother's day cut roses.

I wish I had those neighbors.

It looks pretty good. I'm glad you rescued it. Be sure to post pictures when it blooms.

Nice find. Too bad for your neighbor. Won't they be surprised to hear it bloomed again for you or the lady at your work.

    Cheers,

It is amazing what what people throw out, I have a noid Den that I got out of the neighbor's trash several years ago that is in bloom constantly. It is 5 feet tall and beautiful.
