    Default Dismantling Compots

I potted out a bunch of seedlings this morning. These included the dismantling of a minicatt and a complex paph compot. This first photo is of a minicatt compot from H&R. It had 22 seedlings once I looked more closely. Several of the smaller ones got recompotted. As usual, several of the seedlings were quite large and dominated the original compot. One is even in sheath! This is a very healthy compot!

Here are the seedlings that were taken out of the compot. ALL with nice and healthy root systems! The media in the compot appeared to be a type of Promix with some pearlite over 6 or 8 foam peanuts.

Here is a very nice complex paph compot! I believe this one was a "hobby compot" as it only had 10 LARGE seedlings in it!

Here are the same paphs out of compot. All have actively growing roots! The media in the compot was like new and probably was.

Here is the final result. I'm now growing all seedlings inside under lights in these deep plastic trays with egg crate/pebbles/water/etc. I'm finding having control over the lighting, including the artificial lighting, and the higher/even heat are having a good effect on all of my seedlings. Currently I'm running my lights 12 hours per day. During the summer, they were on 14 hours per day.

I'm trying two of the paph seedlings in s/h as an experiment. Most of my adult plants are in s/h already and doing very well. I thought I would try it with a small seedling to see how it works!

I hope you enjoyed this series!

Looks great! tho I got disoriented looking for it! LOL!!
    What's the paph?

My sis has a blooming complex paph, at the moment. It is pretty neat actually, but didn't open right, rather peloric, which I think makes it look even cooler. If sunny tomorrow, I'll take a photo.

    Heather,
The paph cross is Sharnden 'Agnes Miller' HCC/AOS x (Milmoore x Redsand) 'Hillsview'. What a mouthful!

Here is the description: "This is a new Complex Hybrid for outstanding black spotted red flowers with large full segments and lots of cherry red color in the petals."

I didn't orignially put this thread in the "Cultivation" section because there were photos attached. I thought all photos had to be somewhere under "Photography"...

P.S. Santa/FedEx brought me an early Christmas present today; a bunch of new paph and lycaste crosses!!! I'll be sure to post photos in a few years!!!

    Merry Xmas to all!!!
