How about is we practice BDSM on some of these taxonomists....I think that would be more of a stress release for me over breathing exercises!

I find the whole thing disasterously frustrating! They keep moving stuff around and sometimes it just makes no sense. My theory is this--some biologist has to make a name for themselves so they start undoing years worth of names etc just because it is "fun."

And I cannot understand how if doritis has been merged with phalaenopsis, but you still call what was then a doritis x phal a doritaenopsis. How can you possibly have a hybrid name when the original genus no longer exists? Puzzling . . . .

I haven't changed any of my tags. If they are in a show, I'll look them up on orchid wiz and list them as Rhycolaliagobbledegoop--or whatever.

Sadie, I wonder if you can pronounce what you wrote at the end?! I can't! LOL
It is very frustrating!!! Few days ago here was a post with one beautiful orchid that I loved so I start looking for it.However, I am finding it under both names: Rhyncholaelia digbyana or Brassavola digbyana?! Whatever the name is now I love the bloom and I am going to get me one!

I think the taxonomists must have too much time on their hands .

this has both been a bundle of laugh and a lot of frustration - now thanks to this Thread and to all the posts, more laughs! I know it's only just getting on to 7am here, but heck, i might join u in that tipple!

on the serious side, I thnk it's a great idea that they are moving towards a "Super-Genus", a concept which I have subscribed to for years. My idea of it would go along the way of everything should be called Orchid purpurata of course, there are so many purpurata species from other genus that things would get messy, so maybe just go back to Laellinae purpurata and everything in the old Cattleya, Laelia, Sophronitis, Brassavola, etc etc will now be in Laellinae and when they are crossed, they would still be Laellinae... that or choose say Cattleya as the name of the Super Genus. If it can be crossed then it's in the same Super-Genus and no more miscegenation! (or long intergeneric or is that intergeriatric names)
