Default How many orchids in a collection is normal?

So today was my long overdue annual Spring Repotting of the Orchids. I usually try to do this on a day when I am home alone, as I make a huge mess of the kitchen and other family members tend to want to do silly things like eat and drink in there.

Anyway, I mentioned to my husband that it's a big job, as I now have 40 orchids. He asked me, "Is that normal? To have 40 orchids?"

Now, how in the heck do you answer that question??!! I think I said something like, "Well, some people have only one or two, some have a dozen, or forty, or a hundred or two hundred, then some of them eventually end up building a greenhouse" (I figured it wouldn't hurt to warn him what may lie ahead...)

In hindsight, I should have asked if it was normal for a grown man to collect model trains and sports figures, but my brain didn't work that fast...

So how do you define NORMAL for an orchid hobbyist? And how would YOU have answered his question? How many orchids are in YOUR collection? (In case anyone wants to know, I have 22 phals, 10 minicatts, 6 phaius, 1 spathoglottis, and 1 mini dendrobium. The phals and the phaius tankervillae are doing the best.)

NORMAL!?! . I don't think there is such a thing . Generally there are as many plants as can be crammed into the available space. If more space, then more plants. I usually have about 50 more or less.

I dont think there is such a thing as normal. Orchid collection for me is like an addiction,
and there is nothing normal about addiction right? heck, i am running out of grow space for
them so i am building a new one just for the chids. Now that to me is normal.

Exact number for normal!?!?!?!?! No such thing when related to orchids. I only started with two three months ago, then got a few more... and a few more.... and so on.... By the end of the week (I have couple more orders to come...) they will be over 200 (not sure exactly) not counting the babies from 6 flasks that have to work hard to deserve their own pot and also couple compots. I haven't reach the "normal" yet. As soon as I do I will let you know...

Normal ? Is that is the person that dusts off the plastic flowers that have been sitting for the last 5 years ? Don't think so, we are the normal ones Gin
