    Default What about the Cymbidium?

Yesterday my Wonderful husband surprised with a beautiful Cymbidium. Has to be 2ft. tall and about 6in across with many plants in it. Ok now Im not brand new with orchids ..my phal is blooming and others are growing good. but he paid way more for this than I would have and want to make sure Im doing good. From what i have seen ....there doesnt seem to anything special about this variety...I like the fact it tolerates cooler temps. Some of my phals arent happy with winter cooler temps. Any hints...need to get pics loaded to share...it beautiful. I am now up to 14 orchids..mainly phals, couple of deph. aa,d now the cym. thanks to all Carol

Looking forward to the pics, Carol. And 14 Orchids now!! Good for you. With cymbidiums that 'tolerate' cooler temps, you may actually have to give it cooler temps to get it to bloom. We have one that we have to put outside until the first frost of the season and then bring inside. It will bloom almost right away after that. Others only need a 10 degree or so drop to get them to throw out a spike.

    Cheers,
    BD

Hi Carol.. What would be nice is if you could find a name tag and hopefully it is one that lists the actual grex (true orchid name) rather than just a varietal name as many nurseries are now doing. By having the real name we can give specific advice as there are many different Cyms that have specific requirements. A photo of the flower would be a good start!

Welcome to the wide world of cymbidiums!!
