    Question What's on my Paph?

I noticed this little growth on Sunday, forgot about it, and saw it again today....it has gotten quite a bit bigger. I have no idea what it is though. None of my other Paph have this. I'm not worried, I'd just like to know what it is. Does anyone know?

That is simply where the bloom came out of the bud. Cool photo!

    Cheers,

There's the thick normal one attached to the bud and there's also a small little growth not attached. It's growing separately and it's growing pretty fast. And right now it's about as thick as a toothpick. All the paphs I've seen, I've never seen this little growth. Are you sure it's normal?

I wouldn't worry about it. It looks fine to me. Perhaps it is another bud about to form? Anyone else care to weigh in?

Thank you. And yeah, I'm not worried at all. That would be awesome if it eventually turned into another bud!

    I would hazard a guess : it's another bud.

When I first saw it, I was hoping it was another bud! But then I read somewhere that these only have one flower per spike....did I possibly get really lucky?

Many of the vini crosses produce multiple flowers on a spike. Some, only one bloom per spike. I hope it is another bud.

a small percentage of Maudiae-type hybrids can give you two flowers on a spike, some seem to be genetic and others will do so sporadically with excellent culture. usually by the time the first flower opens you will clearly see another bud, so I'm not 100% sure what that little thing is in the photo. but if it's growing fast then it's very possible it's another flower. great growing!

Thank you for your answers! The first flower is probably about a little less than halfway open. I can't wait to see what this little thing turns into!
