    Default Watering Vanda

This morning, I've noticed that some of my Vanda roots are turning brown and dying and I'm worried because there are no new roots forming to replace the dying roots. I am confused because some websites on the internet suggests to water them at least twice a day during warm season. ( We have a year round warm temperature) My Vandas are all outside with very bright filtered sun and the temperature is around 30Cto 32C, and the Humidity is around 50 to 60%.

I grow my Vanda without any medium attached. Though some roots turns green every time I water but there are some roots that are dying with brown color.

I don't know if this additional information will work. They finished their blooms 3 weeks ago. Though, I don't see dormancy in any of them because I see some new leaf growth but no root growth and I'm a little bit worried because they say healthy Vanda produces some healthy roots. Is it normal for Vandas after the blooms?

Could this be over watering? or twice a day is just normal with my current temperature?

You are not overwatering, Bella. In our tropical climate watering twice a day is normal practice. Just make sure your last watering is not too late in the evening to allow for drying out before night falls.Older roots turn brown and that is normal and if there is vegetative growth then your vandas are doing fine.
I water all my orchids twice a day and even mist them in the afternoons during the hot dry season like the one we just experienced. All my orchid friends here and the commercial farms also water twice a day.

Thank you Cattan for sharing your experience. I was worried that twice a day is too much because I see no root growth on my Vanda. Do you using some solution/hormone along with your feeding? How often do you fertilize your Vanda?

vandas are heavy feeders during the growing season. even on the windowsill I fertilize (weakly) 2-3 times a week. every time I add a couple drops of super-thrive to the mix, as they love hormones too.

I practise foliar feeding - weakly weekly. I am sure a little hormone will do no harm though I seldom use it.
