    Hi Josh

Yes, I guess you could call this a fun place. Actually, it is and believe it or not there are also people out here who know things about orchids. Kind of a nice combination.

This is the most entertaining and informative thread in a while!

I learned there's a Freudian term to describe my husband: anal-expulsive. I also learned I'm not really anal-retentive (I only have tendencies) and that I am not alone in my belief that achieving order in my world is a logical goal and makes my world easier to manage. (My anal-expulsive husband doesn't understand this, and now I know why -- it's because of his sh*t.)

And if you liked the movie Best in Show, check out this new reality-documentary series on Bravo, Dogshow Moms & Dads. It's like the movie, but with real people, real dogs. My dogs and I aren't quite that bad, and we appreciate the humor in it...

Wow! Liz certainly pulled more info out of this thread than I!

What I learned is Kev needs to hit up Bravo to start a new TV show and make millions so he can hire me to run his GH's for 100K a year.

How did this all start? Ah yes, roots, good roots.

So who's going to show me their roots next??? We need more roots.

    (pant, pant, pant)

ROTFLMAO! I loved reading this thread!!!! Too bad it mostly predates my involvement with this forum--wish I'd been here sooner. If y'all (hope that's the proper contraction of "you all"--I often see it written as ya'll which to me sounds like it should be a contraction of "ya will"; "ya" being the informal of "you") will allow, I'll comment on some of this fascinating stuff!

First of all, plants and roots on Kev's plant look wonderful, and I don't (yet, anyway) even grow anything in the Pleurothallid Alliance. It gives me something to aspire to.

I enjoy looking at roots of orchids--kinda grows on you. I won't always say I enjoy the action of repotting, but I usually do. So don't let MikeWa bug you by calling you insane. BTW, I take it as a compliment when someone calls *me* insane.

Now, I don't keep a spreadsheet for my orchids, but I do have a notebook that I use as a diary. It's a binder with looseleaf. Each plant gets its (not it's because it's is a contraction of "it is" or occasionally "it has") own page. I haven't been into orchids long enough for any to require a second page yet, but my original Phal is getting close.

I do, however, have a multi-paged Excel spreadsheet for each of my Phals, listing all the crosses that go into each. One column has the name of the plant, the second has the parents, and the third has the percentages of each species that comprise the total grex. I've spent hours visiting the RHS site looking up crosses! Eventually I'll do the same for all my Oncidium Alliance plants. (I debated between Orchidzrule & Intergenericzrule for my handle when I registered!) But I'm not anal-retentive (hope Julie likes the hypen--personally I try to eschew hyphens, although I love to use the double hypen in my writing) at all. No! Never!!!

Hmm, maybe I *am* anal-retentive. "Meticulous, parsimonious & obstinate", eh? Well, don't know about meticulous, but I think most of my friends would agree I'm obstinate. (although I argue about it! LOL) My last name is Parsons and I often say Parsimonious is practically my last name. All you need to do is take out an IOU! LOL

As far as the alphabetical order of spices goes, I just assumed everyone did that. Otherwise, chaos!

And, yeah, I do tend to correct mistakes by others. <insert heavy sigh>

I don't iron anything if I can avoid it. LOL BTW, isn't starch something in food?

Julie cracks me up with her straight question. I don't care if Kev's gay or straight--I love his postings and he sounds like my kind of people. And, while I don't "hate beyond my ability to express in words" some of the shows mentioned, I totally agree about the sterotypes they erroneously present. Some day, I hope to have the pleasure of meeting Kev.

Julie's my kinda people, too. I love her sense of humor (and never did answer her question about whether the kibbles in my dog's breakfast allowed good drainage for my orchid roots--so I'll say I haven't tried, but *assume* they'd break down too quickly LOL). Hope to meet her someday, too. Louis, is it sucking up if I say I love this forum you've put together?

OK, I have been just a *tad* over the top with this post. I really enjoyed reading all your comments and they sort of elicited a few comments from me. I hope you'll be indulgent toward my kind of insanity.

    Cheers,
    Rob

If you were into this thread, I think you will like it out here. I think there's a great balance between the 'insane' and some really good plant talk.
