    Rob,

    I think you need therapy. But hey - (using a non-eschewed em-hypen) - take a number!

For the record - keeping in mind Garland's favorite dog people quote, the most nauseating new "reality" show on Bravo, and the recent Westminster show - I was kicking around the concept of orchid handlers and how that might work. (There already is some incredibly lame commercial for a truck or SUV that shows vehicles run out by "handlers".

I couldn't come up with anything that would fit with 'chids, so gave up the idea. That was about 6 hours before I tossed my fourth orchid across my living room in as many weeks. This is a most upsetting development (since they all seem to be the ones in the #@*&$% bark, and not the more forgiving sphag!)

I'm not nimble enough, post-surg, to clean up the messes I make. So I have to suck in all pride and call someone and admit what a moron I've been and beg for assistance picking bark out of all my belongings across the room. Thus far I've been lucky enough to not have to call the same person twice. My friends are running out! (For the forum newbies, I've recently had both knees replaced, so I am very much still a spaz as I try and water plants...hence the flying 'chids.)

I think I've answered my own question on what an orchid handler might be (in the most embarrassing of ways) and I need one! Anyone interested?

    Hi Julie,

Sorry to learn of your knee problems. I'd be glad to help if I were anywhere near you--an orchid handler, hmmm, but probably am nowhere nearby, alas.

I am sorry to hear about your situation, but remember it is only temporary and I'm sure you will be kicking those beasts all over the place in the not too distant future.

I know how you feel about asking others for help. I hate that too and will go to extraordinary lengths to not do it. It's really kind of silly though. I love it when people ask me for help (assuming they are deserving), so I'm also sure you are not really bothering your friends. At times it's actually kind of nice to forget about all the stuff going on in ones life and just do something for someone else who really needs the help. If nothings else, just figure you have a lot of cookie baking to do in the not too distant future.

    Rob, I appreciate the compliment!

(Ya know though, Kev mentioned something about up-sucking as well; I wonder if the worry is somehow linked to retentiveness. :check:

    Need to call Dr. Phil....)

Julie, jeez--ya need to stop flinging those around....

    Thanks all!

Wasn't meant to be a pity spotlight, but how funny I was trying to envision an orchid handler as I'm tossing mine around my apartment!

Rob, thanks for the offer! If things progress too slowly, I may fly you in!!! There's great phys therapy progress and leg strength and range-of-motion, but I'm still quite dysfunctional.

Kev, you've nailed - both the difficulty asking for help and the rational to accept it when it's honestly offered. I've been all around those issues with this surgery, but it's hardest asking for assistance for stupidity (and tossed 'chids is certainly up there!) It's just hard to manage crutches or cane and one or two plants with a dish under them to keep them from swamping rugs and floor, without an occasional mishap. I could ask for help watering, but I figure the plant count is self-inflicted, so it's my responsibility.

Anyway, I've decided there's a real need (albeit geographically disparate and poorly recompensed) for orchid handlers. Doggie dudes beware!!

    Julie

PS - Louis, I haven't thrown any RVO plants (yet). It always seems to be the top heavy catts with the messiest bark mixes.... (ie, the bastards that haven't bloomed yet that I'm thinking of salad-shooting. One - post toss - saved it's sorry ass from the compost heap by revealing a sheath. I was past hoping. The damned thing is playing me for a fool... and a gimp...)

Well, I think I've inadvertently flung enough RVO plants to go around--the worst part about doing that is seeing the things lying so helpless and askew on the floor, bark everywhere, roots all white and exposed...

    But see?

That just gives us all the opportunity to engage in more of our favorite activity:
