NOPE! Weyman said NOTHING about beer, rum or honey! And, neither did I. Click on the site on page one or two, and read Weymans' article. As I've said BEFORE, I tested Weyman Busseys' theories on my own orchids, before telling all of you about it. Go to page two, Showy Mexican Orchids. click on it and READ! Have fun...Betty :-)

I read on another forum about spraying orchids with coconut water or coconut milk. Apparently these are rich in phyto and cyto kinins, so they help with growth of both roots and shoots. I have an asian grocery store near here and plan to buy some coconut water, dilute with water, and spray 1 or 2 of my orchids.

Oh I forgot to add that you can sometimes get canned coconut water in asian grocery marts.

I have loved reading this thread! And that article! I think this weekend I'll have a party with my orchids as well...Pina Coladas for me and the plants! Of course, on Sunday morning, I will probably keep the medicinal Mimosas to myself!

Well, Jason, at least you know that it works. I tested all of the stuff ( except for the seaweed supplement ) on my own orchids. Have a great party! And by the way...Make mine a white zinfaldel wine, will you? LOL! Betty :-)

Some larger grocery stores carry it in the wine/beer section, they stock cans of it to use in mixed drinks.

This thread is huge, btw....I think every title should have a beer reference!

Thats super crazy!! I never realized taking care of an orchid is like having a 4 yr old around! haha

Just out of curiosity if you start your orchid on one feeding schedule, is it bad to change it or to alternate it every month or so?

That was a great article, Betty! It (and this thread)opened up a vast number of options for me to nudge my orchids out of the sulks- "how about a delicious pina colada, my lovelies..." (or a spoonful of honey if you like )
Thanks, Derek, I'll look in the regular grocery store for the coconut milk. Do they also stock coconut water, I wonder?
