If you have an orchid hybrid between 2 different genera how do you know which culture to go by if they differ?

What are the two genera? Knowing that could help someone answer your question.

Generally we take the mid point between the two genera, but that is seldom correct,as the plant that we are trying to grow will be dominated more that likely the Pod parent (mum/mom).This general rule can come unstuck if the plant is the plant is of two hybrids or even two non natural genera.

    I hope that this helps.

That helps Murray. Pretty much post here and ask someone lol

Jason the two that brought up the question in general are Bollea & Zygopetalum. I think they are fairly similar in culture except for light requirements.

bolleapetalum- I think I have Cardinal's Roost. Lower than Cattleya light level, but higher than phals. Cooler growing than catts, with air circulation. I water before completly dry.

Cindi you are correct on the requirements for Cardinal's Roost. I grow mine cool and it does very well for me blooming 3 or 4 timea a year. Summers it is moved from the basement to upstairs with the central air. I grow it in an East window. It is in bud now.

Cardinal's Roost is what I have. Both of you mention it is grown cooler. What do you consider cool? Right now I have it with the rest of my orchids. Which currently is anywhere from in the 70s to in the 80s.

I have moved mine outside, to the north side of my house. No direct sun, but bright light. It is really too warm outside during an Iowa summer, with day temps in the 80's to 90's. fortunately, our night temps are dropping into the mid 70's. I moved the Cardinal's Roost outside to give it a good soap spray with the rest of my orchids. I a few weeks, early august, it will come back inside under flouresent lights and temps of low 70's.

Mine grows year-round indoors on an east windowsill. I do have a fan, but other than that, the only cool down it gets is when outdoor temps naturally make the windowsill cooler.
