Jordan, Let me EXPLAIN! You are NOT supposed to pour it on them...Just put out a shallow small plate or bottle top, and fill it with beer. Then, the snails come, and drink, and DROWN! Do this for a couple of nights...and like magic...no more snails. Try it, I promise you, it works...Betty :-)

Snails...we have them here at the new house that are the size of a half dollar. I picked one out of a pot the other day and sent it flying. I find a penny in the pot will help..some line their shelves with copper strips. I know pennies work because the next day you find a puddle of goo with eyes. lol Beer on a plate works really good too. I just never have any around so I use the penny thing.

The first time I found the goo was a happy dance moment. I'd thought the person was kidding me until I found the dead one the very next day. Now i don't mind getting change so much...lol.

Normally slugs and snails are not killed by brief contact with copper but will turn around to avoid further contact. Copper is dangerous for mollusks, echinoderms and even crustaceans. For those who own saltwater tanks, it can be heartbreaking to have to treat a tank for some of the fungal diseases that plague the fish. Many, if not most, medications contain copper. As a result, in treating the fish one often wipes out all of the invertebrate fauna in the tank.

yea i know betty, dont worry, lol but i prefer to use sawdust or as connie uses, copper. @ orchid society tonight, i got two newbies to my collection too. Bulb. pygmeanum, and drianthus-i think. the bulbo is NZs smallest orchid, and also THE smallest in the southern hemisphere, and the other is NZs only upside down orchid-it literally grows upside down

Hope I am not to late to continue this thread. The lack of space is a big issue and I have to be ever so careful in my 6 x 12 green house.

Ok this just recently happened to me.... I've got some new orchids and one of them is
in bloom... i wanted to take a photo of it but the bloom is so tiny and sways at the
slightest breeze.... to make the story short, i wasnt able to take a good photo of the
flower since all of the ones i took are blurred or out of focus. To make things worst,
the battery died on me and had to recharge... the next morning I wanted to try again
but the blooms have faded... so now I must wait for it to rebloom...

Sorry to hear that, Randy. Next time, maybe you could take the pic. inside...that way the wind won't blow it around?! Just a suggestion...Betty :-(
