Default Help me save... Odcdm Mayfair 'R.F.W.

Hello all! I recently acquire an Odcdm Mayfair 'R.F.W.' FCC/AOS. I do not know how to care for this orchid. All the roots are gone, and the bulbs are wrinkly. Does anyone know how to care for an Odcm? Please help me save this orchid. Thanks

HI MZ. If the orchid has no roots, it may not make it. Can you post a photo and let the members here take a look? Sometimes you can save an orchid by the sphag and bag technique, but if the p-bulbs are gone, it may not be possible. Sorry.

But do post a photo and let us take a look. Maybe there is hope.

    Cheers,
    BD

Thank you Bruce for responding. I have included pictures below. Right now I am thinking about experimenting with water culture.

MZ- looks like the plant started a death spiral before you got it. Have been growing orchids for only 2 years, but I know I could not save this one with no live roots. On the other hand, the new growth on the left side if the plant look healthy, even if it has no roots. Perhaps that growth could be spag and bagged??

Thanks etex for responding. Actually when I got the plant in June it was in better condition. I think I left the plant to dry out too much and all the roots became stringy so I cut them all off.

Someone suggest that I do water culture... so I stake the plant and stuck it in a vase... The leaves are now yellowing.

Spag and bag... everytime I tried this i ended up killing the plant. Is there a technique that you can share on how not to kill the plant? Thanks again for replying.

With water culture, make sure only the base of the plant is touching the water. Don't set the bulbs down into the water. You may also need to put it in a lower light area until roots form.

Wish I could help, but don't have the experience, or a technique of my own, with spag n bag for saving this plant. To be honest,I searched this forum under spag n bag to learn more about it.
I pot up tiny seedlings with poor roots in loose spagnum and they seem to like it.I use the smallest size pot possible so the seedlings do not stay too wet.
When I repot any plant, I use a bit of superthrive or KLN rooting concentrate in the water and this seems to stimulate growth of dormant eyes. Perhaps you could add a tiny bit of superthrive or KLN to the water culture? A lot of folks have had good results with water culture.
    Good luck!!

Sphag, not spag. May make a difference when searching for a thread.
