i guess, for those who dont like the urin-part, it should work without it as well just by using water, or better rain water.
ive been using human urin and still experimenting with it, i burned some leaves once, but only those which received afternoon sunlight. so my rule is, lessen the urine and better choose cloudy days, best would be after the rains when the roots are still soaked.

i eat a lot of bananas, so i gotta try something...

anyway not going to spray urine on mine!
Because human urine is high in sodium which is harmful to plants, whereas cow urine is rich in potassium as they do not consume salt as we do.

Yup- they'd know also (just how strange we are!!!) - and rightly so- we'll go to great lengths to perfect our orchids' environment.

So many good ideas to go GREEN for our orchids!
from the last 2 comments, i just remember my aunt who introduced me to orchids; she added crushed eggshells to her orchid media as added fertilizer. at that time (1970's) "compost or going green" were not still common terminologies in plant science! her orchids were the envy of the neighborhood... too bad also, no digital camera so i could post the pictures here as a proof. good!!! somebody mentioned the eggshells and i will add those to my orchids...

One grower told me that she uses banana peels along with some other ingredients in a blender and then pours it through a strainer. I know she growers some beautiful orchids. I've used molasses on vandas. It's supposed to be high in potassium and micro-nutrients.
There are some interesting suggestions on this thread but I think I'll stick with fertilizers that are urea free and, for that matter, free of urine also.

wow what a post from bananas to urine and all very interesting. never knew about eggshells, I'll try that , but I'm afraid that potatoes and bananas would have every living varmit within 5 miles in my backyard. Urine, I don't know my orchids have peed me off sometimes, might be nice to return the favor.
