Default Growing orchids on cinnamon sticks

A florist friend of mine uses 25cm cinnamon sticks for flower arrangements. They typically have a profile like a slightly open B-shape and are extremely sturdy. When I saw them, I immediately thought these may be great to grow on smaller mounted orchids. Of course cinnamon also has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial properties and should not break down easily. I was wondering whether anybody has experimented with cinnamon sticks as growing medium for smaller mounted orchids and seedlings.

I havent heard of seen anything like it before, but i'm concerned because doesnt cinnamon dries out the roots of orchids. I know its good to put some cinnamon on cuts that you made on your orchids to avoid fungal and bacterial infection but i know it will keep the roots. I doubt cinnamon sticks will be a good medium for orchids, it would probably kill your orchids in a heartbeat.

I would agree-cinnamon is a drying agent and therefore not the best thing for roots.

Absolutely, no way - you will wreck your roots through the dessicating power of the cinammon. Also, be careful when using cinammon, not all cinammon is alike, different species, only one of which is really suited for treating open cuts on orchids. I have switched to Flowers of Sulphur to treat open cuts. It works very well and I know what I am putting on my plants.
