    Default I bought orchids today!

I did buy them but the weren't for me. My wife gets her hair done for my orchid divisions and plants I buy.
I got an SLC Jewel Box, Pot Little Toshie and a Paph Maudei (sp?) I got them from the Trader Joe's cheap

Now, before you think I am endorsing Trader Joes, let me say you get what you pay for. I have a Jewel Box and it is much nicer than this TJ flower. I also have that Paph and it is a larger flower than the one TJ has. For cheap flowers to get people hooked, TJ's is good but if you want quality...... Pass them by.

I gotta agree on your "box store" assessment.
You've practically described my pattern of addiction.
Getting cheap (in all senses of the word) plants gave me the confidence
to go ahead and get the quality plants, without fear of killing them.
ok, still some fear, but not enough to stop me.
And buying half-dead/half-price plants allowed me to learn (read: kill)
    without feeling bad about it.
It sure is nice to have a quality, healthy plant in bloom,
but when you're a beginner like me, and don't know any better,
the first rebloom on a mystery phal is a pretty close second.
I've gotten my feet wet with a few different genera,
that I might not have tried if it weren't for cheap plants that did ok.

I've found Trader Joe's plants to be generally healthier and cheaper than the other mass market sources.

It's like a small specialty food store. Excellent prices on booze and good food. Lots of natural foods as well. They started carrying flowers and orchids a while back as 'lost leaders' . They are different because the carry some orchids that typical large hardware stores usually don't. But most of it is still pretty common and all the plants are first bloomers and so small for the genera.

Trader Joe's- Home of two buck chuck! (Very cheap wine called Charles Shaw. Todays Ripple)

Do you need a two-buck chuck care package, Cinderella?

LOL! Thank you, no, Julie. But I did buy some great Argentinian wine there last visit. There is one about 2 hours from here in Indianapolis and we have friends there. So it makes for a nice day. Last time we actually brought a cooler to put stuff in. I wish they would open one here!

There are like two Trader Joes near where I live. I've seen some orchids--mostly those plain white/pink phals, not very interesting. Last time I saw some paphs and oncs, which were okay. But for some reason, I tend to like to go to local nurseries to get orchids rather than food stores. More variety, of course.
