I have about 30 orchids. On the first week of the month they get plain rain water. For other waterings, if they are growing new growths they get high nitrogen orchid fertilizer, or a 'balanced' orchid fertilizer, but if they are growing new flower spikes or have finished their new growths, they get low nitrogen orchid fertilizer. I don't stress about it. I have a couple that keep growing without blooming, and I've quit giving them any nitrogen, in hopes of getting them to bloom. I should add I'm no expert at all, so this is more "what I do" than any attempt to offer advice. I do have a bunch of different types in spike now, tho - Cymbidium, Phalaenopsis, Epidendrum, Potinara, Dendrobium nobile (these don't realy "spike" so much as "bud") and now today a Burrageara (woo hoo!) so feel like I'm on the right track....

Well Daniel that sounds great to me! I only do orchids as a hobby, and I really don't get too serious about it! I guess experience is the best teacher, as I've done this for many yrs. When it's no longer "fun" I'll give them all away, and get another "hobby." My horses are really my favorite "hobby" as I've had them for almost fifty yrs. Betty:-)

I am doing some record keeping with the classified Orchids because they are named...what about the NOIDS?

Well David you can still certainly track the NoIds. Usually you have an idea of at least the genus or one of the genus' in the mix. So if you have something that looks like it has Catt. in it you can just name them Catt. 1, Catt. 2, etc. and put a label in the pot with that name and there you go.
