    Got that loud and clear. Very well stated. The bit about hybridizing to push blooms towards holidays is very interesting. Never considered that, but given the commercialization of the orchid market, it's no surprise.

    Having watched my own plants, I can see that the 'periods' are by no means fixed in a calendar year, either. Mine have slid around quite a bit, depending on the plant.

    Phalaenopsis lobbii : A charming species from India, one of a small group of Phalaenopsis that can be deciduous in the colder climates. These are cooler growing Phalaenopsis... After flowering, the plant requires a drier rest, particularly during the cooler months.
