O...ooo. didn't know because I have a friend who is in the fertilizer business and he gave me a bottle with no label except for the formula. Any idea what's the difference between gaviota 63 and 67? Thanks.

    I think the formula for Gaviota 67 is 13 x 27 x 27 (N:P:K) and it's supposed to be bloom booster.

Nutricote, balanced 180 day formula, Jacks Orchid RO Water Special (also has a well water variety), and Jack's 20-20-20. I can pick up at Jacks, rather than having the MSU shipped.

I love Jack's. I picked up both 'grow' and 'bloom' when I was in FL last October as one of the Vanda vendors showed me how to fertilize. Since then, all my Vandas are so happy.

    Hi Brutal Dreamer,
As you know I'm fairly new to this so I don't know how much it helps but I have used two off and on over the years:
    Chempak orchid fert. 35-10-10
    Fito 5+6+7

I'll let you know how I get on.

One good thing about the years of cultivating orchids, trials/ tribulations and some cases of exhuberance mixed in with a costly fortune of learning curves is the legacy of the priveledged (and well earnt) bonus of narrowing down the inevitable errors eliminating a few and minimising the others, yet still approach with caution with the risk of experiencing the 'if only he knew' and 'havent seen anything yet' looming over me!

Its a bonus to be in the position where personal experiments can be somewhat controlled and the freedom to 'tweak' as and when.

My list applicable to my situ variables. Water quality strong factor in fertilizer options.
85% rainwater/ 'river collected' in prolonged dry periods.
Tap water does not leave white dusty deposits on semi/ permeable surfaces.
Prolonged tap water usage(here) - heavy metals esp copper, chlorine, salts, flouride 1/4 of year as timeframe - will kill carnivorous/ tillandsia/ hibiscus/ heliconia/ destroy roots of epiphyte orchids.

No tap water- new grow season 2012 - Blood/fish/bone slow release (spring only).
    - Chempak PHR Calcium.
-Water soluble nitrogen 15' Instantly available
    - Water soluble pottasium
    - Epsom salts (thanks Cathy) x1 p.mth.

Ongoing from point hobby commenced full time - Superthrive
    - Seaweed extract
    - tbag/ egg shell
    - miracle gro (cymbidium hybs)
    - tomorite
    - full fat milk 50/50 rainwater
    - soiled bathwater (rain) from dragon tank.

Aborted/change. -vitax specialist orchid feed 30.10.10 salt toxicity urea.
    - seaweed extr reduced 50%
    - superthrive alternate month.
Misc./ indirect relation/ considerations - irregular application beneficial fungi.
    - irregular application beneficial Predator mites
    - chem. systemic fungicide/ incesticide ceased.
    - nematodes.
    - garlic repellant.
    Indeed - we will see!

I just use the Better-gro orchid plus fertilizers. I dunno if they're crap or not *shrugs* but I've been using them since 2007. I've never deviated from it, and I often wonder if my plants would benefit more from something different.
