    Question List of Common Orchid Fertlizers

    I am working on the new Orchid Record Database here in the forum and need some help. One of the fields a member can fill out is the type of orchid fertilizer s/he uses. I left this field a blank text field so that the member can simply enter the name of the fertilizer that s/he uses, but after entering about 10 entries, I am tired of typing the same four names of the fertilizers we typically use here. I have decided to add a multi-select option in as addition to the text field and list some of the well known and most commonly used fertilizers for orchids.

    Can you list the names of the orchid fertilizers you use? I am not looking for hard to find or uncommon, but the most common and easy to find. I will make a running list and then add that option. Here are a few to get us started:

    MSU (Missouri State University)
    Miracle Gro
    Osmocote
    Fish Emulsion
    Seaweed Extract
    Super Thrive
    KLM
    Dyna Grow (grow)
    Dyna Grow (bloom)
    Dyna Grow (pro-tekt)
    Dyna Grow (mag-pro)
    Dyna Grow (orchid-pro)
    Orchid - Plus (Better Gro)

    Thanks for your help.

    Cheers,
    BD

    Bruce, I have the following that I bought when I started with orchids:

    Grow More Premioum Orchid Food:
    Bloom Formula (Blue) = 6-30-30;
    All-Purpose Formula (Yellow) = 20-20-20;
    Growth Formula (Red) = 30-10-10;
    Urea-Free Formula (Green) = 20-10-20.

    To be honest, though, once these are used up, I'm probably going to just use Miracle Grow, as I see how wonderfully your orchids do with it.

    In the Philippines, some of our local growers sell Vermicastings in pellets or tea bags as another alternative of orchid or plant fertilizer.
    It is safe to all ornamental plants and it is rich in minerals for robust growth.
    It can be used in aerial plants such as vandaceous orchids.
    For pellets it is applied twice or thrice a month while in tea bags it is applied once a month.

    Another from our agricultural researches in the Philippines, a kilogram of lived African Nightcrawler Earthworm soaked in hot water to release its slimy enzyme as another alternative organic fertilizer and effective natural pesticide, antibiotic agent and fungicide.

    The most common and old fashion way in growing and blooming orchids in the Philippines is using 1 part of urine and 100 parts of water treated overnight. Effective but it really stinks! Hehehe!

    I am using Akerne's Rain Mix (NPK 13+3+15+11CaO+3MgO), which is a local so-called "MSU fertilizer"

    I will have to keep an eye out for them....knowing the way this BS country works, they will be 3 times as expensive here in their country of origin than anywhere else.

    Bruce I don't know if this helps, but how about Neptune's Harvest Fish Fertilizer (uncooked unlike fish emulsions) with Seaweed Extract (all in one). AL
