If we weren't orchid people who regularly admire roots like this, we would have to wonder about the worm or alien tentacle crawling over the wood!

A wonderful root. Yes, I agree with Patty. And we can get so excited over a root or a pseudobulb or nice clean fat leaves. Uh, who said we grow orchids for their flowers? Well maybe foremost for the flowers but the other bits are fun too!

I love your pic. I take a ton of pics every day. With a digital I can see if anything is wrong close up. Afterwards I go back through and delete them. It's a great way to track growth sometimes. But i'm with you...the coolest pics I have are of roots. Love how they grow through and around anything!

Connie, you bring up a good point. I have seen things thru the lens that I had not seen. How many times I have taken a shot and then discovered a mealy bug or other critter!!!

When I went out today there was a snail in one of the vanda's roots. Sometimes it's when I'm shooting, but more commonly after I hit the zoom on the picture. Especially the tiny crawlers...always lets me know when it's time to spray again. My neighbors have to think i'm bonkers. lol There goes that plant woman with her camera again...

Beats a jewelers loop, that is what I use but not very powerful.
I think your idea of utilizing the zoom on your camera as an inspection tool is brilliant and should be included in some Tips & Tricks item somewhere.

This is what I just love about this forum, you can't buy this kind of valuable information. Well, you could, it is called the Donate button on the tool bar of this site. Ohhhh, Bruce, there I got another one in ! ! !
